I thought I would organize five congressional bills from the House Natural Resources Committee (mostly) I find interesting and worth watching the progress of, and these are not necessarily bad! Each link brings you to congress.gov, and on it you can find all the information on the bill, its progress through congress, and who to contact if you wish to comment on it.
Roadless Area Conservation Act of 2025
Introduced on June 11th 2025, by representative Andrea Salina to the House Committee on Agriculture; and the Natural Resources Committee for now, the exact committee it should go to first needs to be determined. This act puts all land currently under Roadless Rule Protection under permanent protection, subject to the same laws as the current Roadless Rule that is being considered for rescission.
Borderlands Conservation Act
Introduced on October 2nd 2025, by the infamous Senator Mike Lee to the House Natural Resources Committee. The Borderlands Conservation Act amends the Wilderness Act to allow The Department of Homeland Security to conduct operations within them (congressionally designated wilderness areas don’t even allow chainsaws in them, and definitely not cars), gives the Department of Homeland Security the ability to set up “tactical infrastructure” within 100 miles of the northern and southern border on federal lands, requires an inventory of all roads and trails illegally made by border crossings, requires federal land management agencies to report on visitor safety issues caused by border crossing’s, creates Border Fuels Management Initiative to better manage land around the border for wildfire risk, and more.
Flat Side Wilderness Addition Act
Introduced on February 26th 2025, by representative J. French “This bill adds specified lands to the Flatside Wilderness in the Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas. The bill also redesignates the wilderness as the Flatside-Bethune Wilderness.” That was the summary on congress.gov, the exact amount of land added is 2,215 acres, and has already passed the house.
Northern Arizona Protection Act
Introduced to the House Natural Resources Committee on September 16th 2025, by representative Paul Gosar, the Northern Arizona Protection Act abolishes the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni-Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument along with the Iron Wood Forest National Monument.
Wetlands Improvement and Conservation Act of 2025
Introduced by Representative Jeff Hurd on May 25th 2025, to the House Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, this bill continues funding for the Wetlands Conservation Act, also; “this legislation reauthorizes section 3(b)(2)(C) of the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act, which will extend the date of interest on obligations held in Pittman-Roberts for it to become available for apportionment until the beginning of 2033.”
